CIOs has to take responsibility for the challenges faced by the organisation as a whole. I will go with series of important words that needs immediate attention.

1. Value

Biggest challenge is to demonstrate continuously what business "value" is gained form IT.

2. Inevitable
Cost-cutting is "inevitably" expected.

3. Delivery

Rapid "delivery" without high investment to meet the needs of the business.

4. Service Levels

Maintaining the "service levels" with zero downtime.

5. Retain

"Retaining" best staff & managing resource levels. 
 

6. Security & 7. Integration
Emergence of Mobile workforce & social media requires more "integration" and appropriate "security" controls.
